 What is a Chemical Peel?

At our medispa in Studio City, we use several types of chemical peels, based on a client’s skin tone and type, and the condition in which we are trying to treat. We recommend SkinMedica Peels which help to illuminize, revitalize, and rejuvenate skin so that it looks healthier. We also use ViPeel Precision Peels that are ideal for treating acne and other skin disorders.

What’s great about a chemical peel is that it can be used on your face and body. We have exclusive peel products that can be used on different parts of the body. Whether you want to reduce the look of acne scars, surface lines, and wrinkles, or improve rough or scaly skin, chemical peels can drastically improve the look of your skin.

Chemical peels are applied to your skin and left on your skin to penetrate deep into the skin’s surface. Depending on the type of damage and peel that is being used to treat the damage, the peel will remain on your skin for more extended periods of time. There are three types of peels that are generally used.

One type of peel offers a light cleanse; another type offers a medium-depth cleanse, and the third type provides a deep cleanse. Depending on which type you choose, and under the care of our qualified aestheticians, you may require a local anesthetic to numb the area that the chemical peel is going to be placed. For deeper cleanses, some clients feel discomfort as the chemical peel starts to work. We can discuss the options available to you and the treatment procedures during your consultation.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From a Chemical Peel?

Depending on which type of chemical peel you have, you may need up to two weeks to recover from and see the full effects of, the chemical peel. Some clients prefer to take time off work as they allow their skin to heal after the chemical peel has been applied. Because there may be some pain and discomfort following the peel, some time away from work may be recommended. We’ll discuss your treatment plan and recovery plan in detail during your consultation.

What is the Risk of a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are used on a regular basis all over the world to improve the look of people’s skin. For the most part, clients don’t report any side effects or risks associated with undergoing a chemical peel treatment. Usually, there is some discomfort, but this can be managed with an injection or anesthetic cream to dull the sensation. As the skin starts to heal, clients may feel a tightness developing in their skin, and that is perfectly normal. You shouldn’t experience any significant discomfort or side effects as a result of the chemical peel, and the benefits far outweigh the risks associated with undergoing the procedure.
